The game was released today, but last night we were treated to what we could look forward to in place of the censored scenes. German censors objected to 7 scenes, each representing about 20 seconds of gameplay each, including a minigame in which you perform an abortion on Randy, a minigame in which aliens perform an anal probe on you… Well you get the idea. Why you may ask? Ubisoft, the games publisher after THQ so publicly went under last year and sold off the rights, took the decision to censor the ENTIRE European region for the release of the game, so I have to abide by German censorship laws now. It’s a South Park game, what did they expect? Also it’s rated 18, so only legal adults will be playing this game, it’s not like you can make the argument “oh it’s going to corrupt the children!” You may also make the argument that, as a British person, why should I care what German censorship laws are? Well, aside from opposing censorship on the grounds that it goes completely against freedom of speech and freedom of artistry, this will effect us here in the UK and in fact over the rest of Europe. I don’t like censorship, ever, especially when it’s something based on my favourite TV show and especially because, well quite a few reason really. So a South Park game, it stands to reason, with the shows humour, would struggle to get past the German censors, and that has rang true. Germany has extraordinarily strict censorship, and it’s been notoriously difficult for adult themed games over there.

So begins the season 15 episode Funnybot. The Yupik Eskimos of the Chukchi Peninsula, “… and now it’s time to give out the award for the least funny people in the world.
